APRIL 2013 WAS THE 6TH SNOWIEST AND 6TH COOLEST APRIL ON RECORD FOR
ANCHORAGE. THE NWS FORECAST OFFICE ON SAND LAKE ROAD RECORDED 16.0
INCHES OF SNOW FOR THE MONTH. THE RECORD FORAPRIL IS 30.8 INCHES IN
2008. THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE FOR APRIL WAS 29.6 DEGREES MAKINGIT THE
6TH COOLEST APRIL OVERALL AND THE THIRD COOLESTAPRIL SINCE THE
OBSERVING LOCATION WAS MOVED TO NEAR THE AIRPORT. THE RECORD IS
26.8DEGREES IN 1972.
THE COOL TEMPERATURES COMBINED WITH THE AMOUNT OF SNOW RECEIVED IN
APRIL HAS LEFT MEASURABLE SNOW FROM THE SEASON ON THE GROUND AS OF MAY
1ST. THIS HAS ONLY HAPPENED 3 TIMES IN ANCHORAGESINCE SNOW DEPTH
MEASUREMENTS HAVE BEEN TAKEN. MEASURABLE SNOW DEPTHIS CONSIDERED WHEN
50 PERCENTOR MORE OF THE OBSERVATION AREA IS COVERED BY AN AVERAGEOF 5
TENTHS OF AN INCH OR MORE.
