Incident Overview
- Fire is burning in mixed conifer and beetle killed timber approx. 2
miles south/southeast of Lake Owen in the Squirrel Creek drainage.
Jurisdiction/ownership is on the Laramie Ranger District. It was
discovered Saturday afternoon around 1 p.m.
- Ground crews worked into the night on Saturday to complete burnout
operations in order to remove unburned fuels with the intent to aid in
containment efforts. Air resources also worked to slow the fire's
growth yesterday.It was estimated to be around 100 acres as of
midnight.
- Red Flag conditions will challengefirefighters today.
- The Albany County Sheriff's Office has issued evacuation notices for
residents along the FoxCreek Road.
- Pre-evacuation notices remain in effect for residents of Woods
Landing, Fox Park and Albany. The Code Red message to residents of
these areas said:
"The Squirrel Creek Fire between Fox Creek Road and Highway 230 is
unpredictable. We recommend that all be prepared to evacuate on short
notice. This is a pre-evacuation notice that should be taken
seriously. Please do not call dispatch at this time."
- Currently there are 4 FS engines,a Type II Initial Attack crew, air
attack, a Type I and Type II helicopter, and misc. other resources
supporting the fire. Additional crews and air resources have been
ordered.
- A Type 3 Incident Management Team has assumed command of the fire.
- Updates will be posted to this site as information becomes available.
